Café Museu in El Carmen
Local bars in Valencia are to be found outside the tourist areas. Visit Café Museu if you want to sit among my neighbors. Surround yourself with street-art while zipping from your local beer and take a free peek in Centro del Carmen. An exhibition and cultural center in a former 13th-century convent.
Café Negrito in El Carmen
Friday and Saturday nights are best to check the buzz at Café Negrito. Locals mix with tourists and expats to enjoy their favorite drink at a hidden square. I made my first local friends here. No one should leave Valencia, before having enjoyed the local vibe at this old school bar.
Bar Mama Liga in El Carmen
Gay friendly and accepting of every gender. Bar MamaLiga is the most peculiar place I´ve ever discovered. It is led by a very friendly Polish guy collecting all sorts of weird objects. He filled the bar with bizarre and beautiful art making this a unique and special place in town.
El Desván del Café in Ruzafa
In Ruzafa it´s just lovely to bump into El Desván del Café. Gay friendly like many bars in this area with a special peaceful vibe. You´d sit here to read, write or chat. The trendy Ruzafa neighborhood is perfect for some bar hopping. Visit Ubik Café for your second beer. Totally vintage!
La Paca in Cabanyal
Cabanyal is beginning to blossom with Bar La Paca as a must visit. No nonsense, extremely cheap and friendly service. In this typical street, it´s eminent why they call this area, Little Cuba. Sit among locals and observe their laid back attitude. You will come back to this marvelous city!
TIPS BEFORE BAR HOPPING:
- Bring your most flexible personality
- Service can be slow in Spain
- Check Google for opening hours
